Welcome

Asoc: The University of Sydney Atheist Society

Who are we?

The University of Sydney Atheist Society (ASOC) supports Atheists, Agnostics, Rationalists, Naturalists, Humanists and all secular members of the University of Sydney Community along with their interests. We promote rational, thought-based belief systems via spreading information, socially connecting members, discussing issues from a rational stance and giving a face to the secular demographic. We aim to ensure that truth and logic on campus will remain prevalent and outspoken.

What do we do?

We organise events, debates, meetups and all sorts of events of general interest to anyone that counts themselves as non-religious in any form. The spectrum ranges from weekly meetups (Wednesdays at Hermann’s, 5pm-8pm; see below) to talks from interesting figures (such as Rebecca Watson, author of Skeptic’s Guide to the Universe, who spoke last year). We have also been involved in an O-Week debate with the EU (Evangelical Union) on campus, and will have all manner of symposiums, debates, Q&A sessions and guests speakers involved for 2011. Stay up to date by keeping a close eye on our News and Events section.

Come along!

ASOC runs weekly meetups from 5pm to 8pm at Hermann’s every Wednesday. This is the best place to start getting involved and finding out what is going on. Usually there is a topic of conversation that is considered and (sometimes) duly ignored as everyone enjoys spending some time with people that share a similar outlook on all manner of archaic superstition. More info can be found by checking out the News and Events page.

Where am I?

The aim of this page is to bring together all the information about our society. Including resources to help improve the level of debate and discussion on campus, information about what’s happening in the society, our blog and links to join our membership / mailing list, Youtube channel and Facebook group.

And now a message from our sponsors! (Well, their names in a list at least)
